REPLI-KATE
Distributor: Universal Entertainment
Certificate: MA15+ | 90 minutes
Director:
Frank Longo
Cast:
Ali Landry, James Roday, Desmond Askew, Eugene Levy
Extras: Yes

This teen comedy, much in the vein of 1980’s classic Weird Science, stars Dorito’s babe Ali Landry as the ultimate girl cloned by high school geek Max (James Roday).

Landry plays reporter Kate who a university to write an article on it’s cloning programme,  student Max is immediately smitten and when he learns she is to fly to Europe he uses a droplet of her blood to clone her.

With a sponge like capacity to soak up information Max and best friend Henry (former Grange Hill star Desmond Askew) decide to teach Kate everything about becoming the perfect woman (mainly by acting as much like a man as possible), before you know it Kate is farting, drinking beer, eating pizza and demanding copious amounts of sex.

Max’s problems really start when the real Kate re-appears (to writer a longer article) and the movie assumes farcical proportions as Max tries to keep the two Kate’s apart.

Landry acquits herself quite well in her dual role as the two Kates and Eugene Levy pops up as head of Science Jonas Fromer and whilst at times seeming like an amalgamation of several different movies (the already mentioned Weird Science, Splash, The Fly etc) Repli-Kate is a reasonably entertaining movie, pretty slapstick in places with the occasional laugh out moment as well as a gross out one involving an exploding hamster.

EXTRAS: Audio Commentary, quite interesting 40 minute behind the scenes doco mostly on the Quebec set, an 8 minute interview with writer Caspian Tredwell-Oen, a brief 3 minute look at Jolie’s work for the UN and the theatrical trailer.
