The
DVD Review

SEX
AND THE CITY
Paramount.
Available to buy now.
Establishing
itself as a uniquely popular
right from it’s first
outrageous episode Sex and the
City, the HBO sitcom may now
have finished but with the
release of the show on DVD there
is chance to se what all the
fuss was about. Sarah
Jessica Parker stars as writer
Carrie and living in New York,
she spends most of her time
talking about sex with her best
friends Samantha (Kim
Cattrall,who seems to spend more
time out of her clothes than in
them), Charlotte (Kristin Davis)
and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).
Below we take a look at season
three and season five of the
series.
SEASON
THREE (3 Disc set. 18
Episodes). The series was really
hitting it’s stride by the
third season winning an Emmy for
Outstanding Comedy Series as
well as two Golden Globes,
plotlines remained similar
across its 18 episodes, the
pursuit of sexual happiness, and
in the case of Charlotte pursuit
of a husband (enter Kyle
McLachlan as Trey), Carrie
becomes involved in a
relationship with a man only to
fall back into a fling with her
ex the so called Mr Big (who is
about to get married). Other
highlights include a 3 episode
visit to
Los Angeles
and a trip to the
Playboy
Mansion
, a crazy barmitzvah and
this series also includes some
major guests stars including
Carrie Fisher, Sarah Michelle
Gellar, Hugh Hefner, Donovan
Leitch, Matthew McConaughey,
Alanis Morissette and Vince
Vaughn.
EXTRAS ON THIS THREE DISC SET
include cast biographies on disc
one, a behind the scenes feature
on the show on disc two
whilst disc three has a text
feature on the awards and
nominations the show has
garnered.
SEASON
FIVE (2 disc set. 8
episodes) By season five the
show had become a casualty of
it’s own success with the
group all pushing to do other
things (most notably Parker and
Nixon who were both busy being
pregnant), this series only had
8 episodes and is lower key than
other seasons, here all four
girls are single (albeit Miranda
has a new baby) but the formula
is pretty much the same as
before, plenty of frank
language, the girls all getting
naky except Parker and the
obligatory Carrie and Mr Big
moment. Extras include
detailed cast biographies on
disc one and a behind the scenes
feature.
