THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: The Silver Chair
Distributor: Roadshow Entertainment

Extras: Yes

Back in the late 1980’s The Chronicles of Narnia set new standards in children and family fantasy, based on the famous cycle by C.S. Lewis and adapted for TV by Alan Seymour the series began with a new version of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe in which four children growing up in the austere 1930’s discover that a wardrobe leads them into the magical land of Narnia where witches and magical creatures abound especially Aslan the lion who is Lord of Narnia.

Created using animatronics Aslan was a huge beast of a Lion voiced rather stately by Ronald Pickup, following the success of the 6 part Lion Witch and the Wardrobe more of C.S. Lewis’s Narnia tales were brought to life, the two part Prince Caspian and the four part Voyage of the Dawn Treader (All of these are available from Roadshow) and in 1990 another (final) 6 part serial was broadcast, Roadshow are now releasing The Silver Chair in a single volume, this time out the children are Jill (a young Camilla Power) and Eustace (David Thwaites) and the pair have to discover the secret of The Silver Chair and find the missing Prince Rillian (heir to the throne of Prince Caspian),

along the way meeting such characters as Puddlegum (played by Dr Who’s Tom Baker) and cross swords with the bad giants of Giant City and the King and Queen of the Green Kertle.

The Silver Chair is easily the equal of the other stories in the series and perfect Sunday afternoon family viewing and like the others features the beautiful music of Geoffrey Burgon.

Extras: Picture gallery featuring 22 stills from the serial.
