Georgia Perry (Radha Mitchell) is planning to spend 5 months sailing around the world solo in an attempt to get into the record books, when her boat is becalmed for a number of days Georgia finds the loneliness and isolatedness of her situation is in danger of tipping her over the edge into madness.  Before too long Georgia is talking to the cat she has on board with her, fine itself except the cat is answering back, not only that she is having visions of a Polynesian prince who is intent on ravishing her.

Very much a single character piece, although there are copious flashbacks to episodes in Georgia’s life before she sailed including her problems with her fiancée Domenic Purcell), her sick father (a nice to see Ray Barrett) her ailing mother (Susannah York), The Visitors is very moody and carries with it an air of encroaching menace (the movie strikes one as being most similar in tone to Polanski’s Repulsion although director Franklin is somewhat of a spook veteran having helmed the classic Patrick and Psycho II) and you can’t help feeling there is something nasty lurking around the corner.

Despite one or two stagy moments where it is obvious the boat is on a soundstage somewhere Mitchell does a great job of making you empathise with her in her predicament.

One question though? If you were on a boat stranded in the middle of nowhere miles away from anyone, would you shower wearing a bikini?

EXTRAS: Extensive cast and crew biographies, photo gallery, the original theatrical trailer and 4 trailers for other palace/fox movies.
