THE
WIND AND THE LION
Released
by Columbia Pictures
Connery
as a Sheik!!.
One
of Sean Connery’s stranger
film roles this - as a Moroccan
sheik! Directed by the legendary
John Milius and originally seen
in cinemas in 1975 The Wind and
the Lion is based on a true
story from the early part
of the 20th century when an
American woman (Candice Bergan)
is kidnapped by Sheik Raisuli
(Sean Connery who makes no
attempt whatsoever to hide his
Scottish accent), Roosevelt
decides to send in the boys to
sort those pesky Moroccans out.
Aiming
for an epic of grandeur Milius
almost pulls it off with his
beautiful widescreen
cinematography, there are
sunsets aplenty here,
unfortunately the story is just
not big enough, more like a
modern version of a Rudloph
Valentino flick than a would be
David Lean. It is entertaining
though, no film that stars
Connery and also includes the
director John Huston and the
fantastic Brian Keith (as
Roosevelt
) can fail to be. The only
extras are a couple of trailers.
