ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Orlando Bloom, Billie Piper, David Kelly, Omid Djalil, Michael Lerner, Mark Heap, Ronnie Ancona

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Milkman Jimmy Connelly (Bloom), a man with a head as hard as a rock, finds himself the main British contender in a world boxing championship boxing bout after accidentally breaking the hand of the real contender in a sparring match. Meanwhile a documentary film-maker is making a film about the upcoming championship bout.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

It’s easy to see why The Calcium Kid disappeared at the big screen, its silly without being overly funny and uses a fake documentary feel that was already old hat before filming even started. Clearly hoping for a Full Monty type production The Calcium Kid does sometimes get there but more often the jokes are obvious, the dialogue flat and the acting distinctly ordinary.

Plus points are Bloom looking less like Legolas than you could possibly get and an appearance by a very frail looking David Kelly as an aging trainer. Fans of Bloom will lap it up the rest of us may find it a little curdled.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

10 bland deleted scenes and a set of out-takes.
