ANYONE
IN IT WE KNOW?
Elvis
Presley
WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
This
1987 documentary tells the story
of Elvis’s breakthrough year
1956, narrated by Levon Helm of
The Band, the movie packs in
plenty of vintage TV clips and
rare footage of the man himself.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
All
22 of the tracks Elvis recorded in 1956 turned out to be classics, this
excellent release includes performances of Hound Dog, Don’t Be Cruel,
Heartbreak Hotel, Love Me Tender, Blue Suede Shoes, Shake Rattle and
Roll, Blue Moon and Peace in the Valley, there are archive clips of
Elvis on shows like Steve Allen , Milton Berle, the Dorsey Brothers and
of course the Ed Sullivan Show where Elvis’s hip swiveling antics
meant Elvis was filmed from the waste up for his later performances;
A
great idea for a doco, 1956 was definitely one of the key Elvis years,
and this follows him as he becomes a huge phenomenon hitting the top of
the charts and breaking into movies with Love Me Tender.
Sometimes
scratchy, thanks to the archives nature of the footage, Elvis 56 is
never less then supremely interesting and essential for any Elvis fan.
