WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

In 1997 New York has become one giant maximum security prison, former war hero S.V. "Snake" Plissken (Kurt Russell) about to start a life sentence in New York is given a shot of freedom but only if he can rescue the President of the USA whose plane has been shot down over the “prison”.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

The classic early 1980’s Escape From New York is easily director John Carpenter’s best, exciting and full of action. It’s futuristic theme is a little dated now but the movie boasts some great performances from the likes of Donald Pleasance as the president and Lee Van Cleef’s police commissioner, best of all though is Kurt Russell’s star turn as Snake Plissken.

Carpenter’s New York is a very scary place full of vicious crazy characters and the basic idea for the movie is very sound, creating an entire city full of criminals (hey wait a minute isn’t that how Australia started?).

Despite some hackneyed dialogue Escape From New York is a definite cult classic worth a look.
