WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
500
Years in the future, when the
Universe has been engaged in a
bloody civil war, the crew of
the spaceship Serenity (Firefly
Class) are roaming the galaxy as
a crew for hire to try and avoid
capture by The Alliance. Captain
of the Serenity is no-nonsense
Mal Reynolds and his second in
command is the very loyal Zoe,
the rest of the crew is made up
of the mercenary Jayne, ships
engineer Kaylee, the ship’s
doctor Simon and Book the
ship’s Voice of Reason. Oh and
Serenity also has its own
prostitute, Nara,
on board.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
It’s
hard to see why Firefly didn’t really catch on, its easily the equal
of any of the Trek franchises and other shows such as Farscape and being
created by Buffymeister Joss Whedon ensures the scripts are of a high
standard. The 13 episodes on this four disc set from Fox set the premise
up nicely and definitely leave us wanting more. Maybe America has just seen too
much scifi lately – now if only they would get fed up with reality TV.
ANY
SPECIAL FEATURES?
Here’s
How It Was, a feature going behind the scenes of the series, a look at
the ship in Serenity – The 10th Character; next up is
various deleted scenes followed by Alan Tudyk’s audition, a bloopers
reel; Joss Whedon performs the theme tune to Firefly followed by him
taking us on a tour of the set.
