ANYONE
IN IT WE KNOW?
Robert
S. McNamara, John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro
WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
The
story of America as seen through
the eyes of the former Secretary
of Defense, Robert S. McNamara.
In a series of interviews with
film-maker Errol Morris McNamara
discusses the bombing of Japan
in World War II, the Cuban
Missile Crisis and the American
involvement in the Vietnam War.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Winner
of the Oscar for best documentary The Fog of War despite being basically
a feature length interview with the now 85 years old McNamara is absolutely
gripping. To temper the interview material director Morris does
make use of plenty of archive material too, it's utterly bizarre hearing
McNamara trying to justify America's involvement in pretty much every
warzone in the last 60 years and totally amazing hearing the recently
declassified White House Recordings.
Given
the current political climate and the current state of the world The Fog
of War is essential viewing. As an Englishman living in Australia it is
hard to see where the governments draw the line as to the decisions they
make that affect not only the lives of people in their own countries but
the lives of those in the coutnries they become involved in.
ANY
SPECIAL FEATURES?
A
stack of additional interview material running to almost half an hour.
