LIKE TWO CROCODILES

MA15+ 94 minutes extras

This wonderfully atmospheric, beautiful to look at French/Italian tale uses a twin narrative to tell the story of Gabrielle (Angela Baraldi) an Italian antiques dealer living in Paris but revisiting his Italian home and trying to come to terms with his childhood growing up the illegitimate son of a married man. Slow moving but very eloquent Like Two Crocodiles uses its theme of seeking closure for events in the past very well.

Extras include the trailer, cast and crew filmographies and a photo gallery.

LUCIA LUCIA

MA15+ 108 minutes No Extras

Mexican thriller with a comedic edge that stars Cecilia Roth as a woman determined to track down her missing husband and in the process learns more than a little about life and herself. Director Antonio Serrano has a sharp eye and carries the movie along with a quickfire edge.

MY MAN

MA15+  99 minutes No Extras

The always provocative and always interesting Bertrand Blier’s movie from 1997 about prostitute Marie (Anouk Grinberg), a girl with a real heart of gold who actually enjoys her work. When Marie takes in penniless drunk Jeannot (Gérard Lanvin) and makes him her “nice” pimp she finds herself falling in love with him and changing both their lives.

Blier is a talented director with a knack for generating an intimate feel (thanks in part to extended close ups) and My Man is an emotional drama that manages to say a few things about identity into the bargain. Well worth a look despite the lack of extras.
