ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Lucille Ball, Lucie Arnaz Jr, Desi Arnaz Jr, Mary Jane Croft, Gale Gordon

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

In her fourth TV show detailing “incidents” from her life Lucille Ball plays Lucy Carter a widow bringing up her two kids (played by real life offspring Lucie and Desi Jr). Lucy works for the Unique Employment Agency, owned by her brother in law Harrison Carter (the always great value Gale Gordon) which of course offers her plenty of scope for misunderstandings and hilarity.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

With 24 episodes (hand picked by Lucie and Desi Jr) spread over four discs there is certainly plenty to enjoy in this set from The Shout Factory not least in the huge array of guest stars who pop up, from Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton, Carol Burnett, Jackie Gleason, Johnny Carson, Milton Berle, Jack Benny Ann-Margret, Flip Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr and Wayne Newton. Of course Lucille Ball is such a great character who can elevate an average script into a greatly entertaining piece of fun with just a raised eyebrow or change of facial expression. It’s also nice to see her interactions with her real life kids. Here’s Lucy obviously isn’t as well remembered as the iconic I Love Lucy but is just as enjoyable and is well worth checking out.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

Jam Packed. Extras include some commentaries on key episodes from Lucie and Desi Jr and Carol Burnett; A bloopers reel, rare rehearsal footage; A sketh from the Jack Benny show which features Lucille, Benny and Johnny Carson; A sketch from the Ann-Margret show, footage of an audience warm up with Lucy’s husband and show executive producer Gary Martin; A commercial for Pepsodent; The original CBS network promos; The Here’s Lucy syndication sales tape; Footage from a benefit dinner that sees Lucie and Desi Jr playing their parents in an I Love Lucy sketch.
