SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
This
four hour plus mini series first aired in 1979 back in the days when a
quality mini series was actually looked forward to by a large audience.
Opening with the Japanese attack on
Pearl
Harbour
and covering all the
major events of the conflict, Ike is generally very good. Duvall is
excellent in the title role, really inhabiting the skin of Eisenhower,
there’s also a parade of well known English character actors such as
Terence Alexander, Julia McKenzie, Charles Gray and Francis Matthews.
Mixed
in with the drama is real wartime battle footage that lends an air of
realism to the proceedings. Ike
is of interest not just to fans of wartime dramas but also to the person
looking to watch a straight ahead piece of entertainment.
