ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Pfeiffer

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Ed (Jeff Goldblum) is an insomniac who has discover his wife is having an affair, whilst on a midnight drive around LA Airport he has life changed when he rescues Diana (Michelle Pfeiffer) from a quartet of gun toting Iranians (who want back some priceless diamonds she has in her possession stolen from the Shah of Iran).

Over the course of a night Ed and Diana try to dodge not just Iranians but also a French jewel thief and a British hitman.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Despite not being as well known as some of John Landis’s other movies (An American Werewolf in London, The Blues Brothers, Trading Places etc) Into The Night is easily up to their standards, a very entertaining chase comedy thriller with nice performances from Goldblum and Pfeiffer and a movie that makes great use of LA by night. Into The Night is also full of surprising cameos and injokes, there are appearances from David Bowie, Abbott and Costello, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, Jr., Richard Farnsworth, Dan Aykroyd, Jonathan Demme and Jim Henson. Also watch out for the two appearances of the phrase “See You Next Wednesday” this appears in almost every John Landis film and here takes the form of posters in an office. Well worth a look.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

B.B. KING: Into The Night is a great featurette (20 minutes) looking at how B.B. King came to contribute to the soundtrack to Into The Night, featuring some great live footage (and even some vintage material) of B.B. in action. Worth buying the DVD for this alone.
