ANYONE
IN IT WE KNOW?
David

WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
Michael
Knight is a police officer who,
left for dead in a shooting, is
rescued by millionaire
philanthropist Wilton Knight and
following
Wilton
’s untimely death Michael
finds himself the sole
benefactor of his estate with
the proviso that he uses the
resources to fight crime. Chief
resource of course being the
amazing computerised car KITT
(voiced by C3P0 himself Anthony
Daniels) whose full name was
Knight Industries Two Thousand.
KITT was capable of travelling
at 300mph and was fully equipped
with a whole array of weapons
and tricks. Helping Michael and
KITT were Devon Miles (Edward
Mulhare) who managed Knight’s
estate and mechanic Bonnie
Barstow (Patricia McPherson)
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Back
in the day everyone loved KITT, the souped up Pontiac Trans-Am at the
heart of Knight Rider, now thanks to Universal we can relive the whole
of the first series on three double sided discs. Despite being a riot of
bad hairdo’s and dodgy 80’s styling Knight Rider is great fun and
very watchable, and will no doubt garner a whole new generation of fans
(my 12 year old daughter loves it). The episodes are all very enjoyable,
highlights include Michael tangling with a biker gang in Good Day at
White Rock, the episode Trust Doesn’t Rust which features an evil
version of KITT called KARR (how choice is that!) and Michael finding
trouble with Central American drug runners in Hearts of Stone.Nostalgic stuff indeed, lets hope season two rolls out sooner
rather than later.
ANY
SPECIAL FEATURES?
Quite
a good batch all of them on disc four apart from the audio commentary on
the pilot episode on disc, the best of them being the feature TV Movie
revival Knight Rider 2000, made in 1991 Michael coming out of retirement
to take on crime in Seattle and having to build a new KITT into the
bargain; featurettes include Knight Rider Under The Hood which is a 16
minute reminisce with key cast and crew about the making of the show;
Kitt’s owners manual allows you to navigate through various facts and
figures through the novel device of KITT’s dashboard, there is also a
photo gallery and a blueprints gallery.
