WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
“The
wise man walks always with his
head bowed, humble, like the
dust.”
Born
in China to Chinese and American
parentage Kwai Chang Caine is
raised as an orphan by the monks
of the legendary Shaolin Temple,
growing up Kwai Chang learns the
philosophy ofinternal harmony
and the oneness of all things as
well as becoming a master in the
art of Kung Fu… Caine’s
troubles start when he
accidentally kills a member of
the Chinese Royal Family, forced
to flee to America Caine embarks
on a quest to find his long lost
brother and avoid capture by
both Chinese Imperial Guards and
US bounty hunters…
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
David
Carradine IS Kung Fu, his whole mystique and philosophy matching that of
his TV persona, it was his obvious affinity with Caine that made Kung Fu
so interesting back in the early 70’s; This four disc set from Warners
brings us all 23 episodes from season 2, plotwise the premise remains
the same as season 1, Caine is still searching for his brother Danny,
still pursued by pretty much everybody; Caine is the archetypal maverick
loner, flitting through peoples lives, solving their problems with a
wise word and some major Kung Fu action whilst remaining at heart a man
of peace.
Each
of these episodes features plenty of slowed down Chinese style action as
well as numerous flashbacks of Caine’s younger days in the monastery
being trained by his masters Master Po (Keye “number one son” Luke)
and Master Kan (Philip Ahn), it is all very entertaining and this second
season has some great guest stars including a then unknown Harrison Ford
as well as the likes of Don Johnson Slim Pickens, the legendary Tina
Louise, John Carradine and Benson Fong. Great stuff.
