ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Jerry Lewis, Helen Trabel, Doodles Weaver, Gloria Jean

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

In 1956 Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis starred in “ Hollywood or Bust” it was their last film together bringing to end one of the best film comedy partnerships since Abbott & Costello in the forties. Both Martin and Lewis pursued solo careers, Dean Martin starred in a wide range of film roles but Jerry Lewis decided to keep making his comedies. By 1958 after making several films Jerry began to extend his experience by taking on the duties of producer in the films in which he starred, in 1961 Jerry further showed his talents by writing producing and directing the films in which he was in.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

The Ladies Man was the second film which he directed, the storyline concerns Jerry as a young man who is afraid of women, he gets a job as a houseboy in a mansion but not until the next day does he discovers the house is full of beautiful women, then he is tricked into staying, the film covers his zany antics in the house , that’s it as far as the storyline goes. The film is still very funny even now. Jerry’s humour is the very essence of humour ie facial expressions and body actions. He can and does make the most mundane tasks seem fraught with catastrophe. Look for Hollywood tough guy George Raft (playing himself) in a cameo role, add to this Harry James and his band doing some great numbers all makes this makes the film an easy one to watch and enjoy.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

Paramount Pictures is releasing some of these earlier films in December special editions loaded with features which include Deleted Scenes,  scene selection, out takes, dance rehearsal Auditions, 2 trailers, film commentary with Steve Lawrence and Jerry Lewis and much more.
