It
was always going to be hard to
come up with a sequel that would
come anywhere near the
wondrousness of The Lion King.
Simba’s Pride whilst not quite
in the league of its precursor
but it is still a greatly
entertaining family movie.
Happily many of the original
voice cast reprise their roles,
Matthew Broderick as Simba,
James Earl Jones as Mufusa,
Robert Guillame as Rafiki and
the scene stealing Nathan Lane
and Ernie Sabella Timon and
Pumba.
Plotwise, this time out the focus of the movie is
on Simba’s daughter Kiara who,
despite warnings from her
father, heads out in search of
adventure finding herself in the
forbidden and dangerous
Outlands, worse still she meets
Scar’s son Kovu (whose destiny
is to overthrow Simba and
reunite the two tribes).
Kiara’s
problems are further added to by the fact that she may just be in love
with Kovu.
As
with the Lion King, at the heart of Simba’s Pride are the songs, five
of them, performed by Cam Clark, Charity Sanoy and Ladysmith Black
Mambazu; There is also plenty of humour too courtesy of meerkat Timon
and warthog Pumba, throw in some quality extras and you have a movie
well worth adding to your Disney collection.
EXTRAS:
: Many of the extras on this disc have an educational slant with the
Timon and Pumba hosted Find Out Why (which sees the dynamic duo
explaining such science facts as why things like rain happen) and the
wildlife segment Lots About Lions, there are also a couple of games,
Rafiki’s Challenge and Pride Land, the music for Love Will Find A Way;
A sing along with songs Karaoke style feature and best of all a gorgeous
the five minute short called One By One in which the children of a poor
African village learn the beauty of flying kites set to the fantastic
music of Lebo M.
