ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Written by  and starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams and also featuring Anthony Head and the voice of Tom Baker

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

A quick fire tour around little Britain, a strange place where daffy Thomas is the only gay in town ( “ I always thought Captain Peacock was the gay one in Are You Being Served” ), where government aide Sebastian Love has a mad crush on the Prime Minister and where delinquent teenager Vicky Pollard runs riot.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

“No but yeah but no but what I mean right is Little Britain is the best UK comedy since The League of Gentlemen, deliriously funny, intensely clever and a tour de force of great comic acting (almost all the main roles are played by Walliams and Lucas and they really are good actors) . Little Britain (seen on the BBC 3 digital channel in the  UK) is hard to classify, from its portentous but ridiculous voice over from Tom Baker to it’s often sick sketches of transvestites, non disabled disabled people and the wicked Dame Barbara Cartland take off, it takes place in a kind of everywhere Britain that contains much that is recognizable.

Wisely the boys have also packed the show full of recurring characters and catchphrases so “now look into my eyes, don’t look left, don’t look right, just look into my eyes, now repeat after me, I must buy this DVD and 4,3,2,1, and relax.” As a certain Little Britain hypnotist might say.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

This 2 disc set has plenty of extras including a commentary on all 8 episodes by Wailliams and Lucas; a funny Friday night with Jonathan Ross interview. A chance to see the original pilot episode (also with commentary); various deleted scenes, all the rock profiles (the series the guys made before Little Britain) elements gathered together; 4 live sketches from the 2004 teenage cancer trust concert.
