ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

John Hargreaves, Briony Behets,

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

With their marriage in a bit of a crisis Peter and Marcia decide to go on a camping trip into the bush during a long weekend, things don't get off to a great start after hitting a kangaroo with there car they find a campsite full of ants and a natural world that seems to have taken a strong dislike of them.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

So full of suspense and mounting tension that Eggleston's movie could give Hitchcock's best a run for its money, even though the sometimes hands over the eyes gruesome moments (starting with that Kangaroo bash and taking in all manner of other little nasties) begin to steer the movie into the realm of horror, as does the movie's main plot thrust -  that of the awesome power of nature over man.

Made in 1976 Long Weekend is quite a powerful piece of film making, Marcia

and Peter have no regard for the environment, throwing down lighted matches, spray insecticide and generally behave like a pair of yahoos. Basically a two hander with Hargreaves and Behets acquitting themselves very well, the pair sparking off each other nicely, Long Weekend despite being mostly set in broad daylight manages to invokes a real scare inducing feel, thanks in no small part to the soundtrack of electronica and bizarre animal noises.

Long Weekend is an example of a Natures Revenge style movie and a proper Aussie thriller.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

A brand new audio commentary from executive producer Richard Brennan and cinematographer Vincent Monton. There is also an excellent photo gallery that is accompanied by an audio interview with John Hargreaves; The original theatrical trailer is also included.
