MAYALL, MARSHA FITZALAN, MICHEAL TROUGHTON, ROWENA COOPER
WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
Highly
devious MP Alan B’stard (MAYALL)
will stop at nothing to get the
best for himself, willing and
happy to shaft anyone who stands
in his way.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Supremely
cynical and hilarious sitcom from two of Britain’s best comedy
writers, Lawrence Marks and Maurice Gran and with a bravura performance
from Rik Mayall that makes Alan B’stard one of the best TV characters
of all time. Having set himself up in parliament by the handy trick of
maiming his opponents in a car crash B’stard quickly establishes
himself as a favourite with the conservative and blames all his mistakes
and shortcomings on his parliamentary secretary Piers Fletcher Dervish
(Michael Troughton), other regular characters include B’stard’s
heiress lesbian wife Sarah (Marsha Fitzalan)and Alan’s sex change
business consultant Norman Boorman (Rowena Cooper).
With
plenty to say about the state of Britain in the late
1980’s and ‘90’s the new statesman is an intelligent sitcom that
doesn’t play down to it’s audience.
