WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
William
H. Macy plays disillusioned
middle-aged hitman Alex who
whilst seeing a shrink becomes
attracted to the much younger
Sarah (Neve Campbell) and also
struggling with his
relationships with his wife
(Tracey Ullman) and his
domineering father Michael
(Donald Sutherland).
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Somewhat
understated Panic is a study of repression and the relationship between
fathers and their sons no matter what their age is hung on a Soprano’s
like mobster theme. Macy as usual is excellent, in fact the cast make
this movie seem better than it really is. Tracey Ullman turns up in a
rare dramatic role as Macy’s wife and young Neve Campbell does well
with her role as the would be temptress. Panic is Brommell’s debut
movie and whilst it sometimes shows in his scenes that last just that
little too long it does have a quite a real and natural feel and is
still makes for a good nights entertainment. Watch out for an appearance
by the late John Ritter as Alex’s shrink.
