WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Prisoner is a much derided but nevertheless still very popular show (re-runs still being seen in many countries) that tells stories of the all female inmates of Wentworth Detention Centre. The show had its roots in the similar UK drama series Within These Walls but this is a much tougher cookie altogether with the women dealing with lesbianism, murder, drugs and the like. Key characters include tough inmate Bea Smith who ruled the roost at Wentworth (Queen Bea as she was known), prison officers Joan 'The Freak' Ferguson and Vera 'Vinegar Tits' Bennett.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

It’s now 25years since Prisoner worked its way into the public consciousness, this third collection of classic episodes from the series helps celebrate that fact, included are 12 key episodes with each disc offering 4 consecutive ones dealing with storylines such as Meg and Governor Reynolds getting trapped in a building full of explosives, male inmates arriving at Wentworth, top dog Rita Connors getting transferred to Blackmoor Prison where everyone is out to get her and the four episodes which saw Rita Connors decide to go out in a big way, these led up to the final episodes which have already been released.

Archly camp but great fun, this new set is a must have for all fans of course but still worth adding to the collection of any TV fan, there is so little vintage Australian TV being released that it really is heartening to see Kaleidoscope coming up with the goods – now surely they just need to do the same with Sons and Daughters!!

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

Each disc features a shortish excerpt from a yet to be released doco on the show featuring contributions from cast and crew.
