ANYONE
IN IT WE KNOW?
Ronald
Reagan, Nancy Reagan
WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
A
tribute to the late former
President taken from the NBC
news archive.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Full
of great archive footage this affectionate tribute to Ronald Reagan is
hosted by Stone Philips and tracks Reagan’s early years, through his
days as a Hollywood star and onto his political career which culminated
of course with his becoming President of the United States of America.
There is plenty of behind the scenes and never before seen footage as
well as an emotional interview with wife Nancy. Admittedly on the short
side (only 41 minutes) NBC Presents Ronald Reagan becomes essential
thanks to its major package of extras, many of them vintage TV material
not seen for years.
ANY
SPECIAL FEATURES?
Loads
of bonus material. A Day With President Reagan is presented by David
Brinkley and is a 35 minute edition of NBC Magazine from March 1981 and
takes us behind the scenes of the Whitehouse, very interesting stuff;
Love Letters to Nancy is a sweet look at the letters written over the
years by Reagan to his wife; General Electric Theatre: No Skin Off Me is
the real Gem here, a performance from 1957 of an episode of the show
that Reagan hosted and sometimes starred in, this episode sees him
playing a boxing trainer and is a wonderful slice of Nostalgia; Next up
is Reagan’s 1981 inaugural address followed by Reagan’s speech in
which he challenged Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin wall; Dear Ron is
a short feature on Reagan’s letters to a long time pen pal; Golden
Anniversary is an interview with the Reagan’s from 2002 on their 50th
Wedding Anniversary; Lastly is The Long Goodbye a four minute short
looking at nationwide commemorations following Reagan’s death.
