ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Roger Moore

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Volume two of the Saint continues with 24 more of the classic black and white era of the show, still considered by many to be the series zenith, again there are guest stars aplenty and derring do by the bucketload.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Still in the early black and white era this second awesome set from Umbrella finds Roger Moore in increasingly relaxed form as Simon Templar, all the key ingredients are still here, the fake back lot sets doubling for exotic locals, the pretty girls Simon is called upon to help, the car and the fantastic black and white photography (which does look superbly crisp and surprisingly modern).

All of these early episodes are adapted from original Leslie Charteris stories and they run the gamut from the Saint tangling with diamond thieves in The Rough Diamonds, Templar investigating the murder of a film producer in Starring The Saint and The Saint tangling with a criminal mastermind in The Scorpion.

There are also plenty of well known names appearing in this set too from Oliver Reed in Sophia, the beautiful Justine Lord in The Saint Plays With Fire, Derren Nesbittt in The Sporting Chance, Sue Lloyd in Louella, Nyree Dawn Porter in The Scorpion and Peter Bowles in Lida. Truly vintage stuff.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

As always with Umbrella they have assembled a great line up of extras including another audio commentary from Mr Eyebrow himself on the episode The Saint Plays With Fire, also featured on this commentary is Robert S. Baker and Johnny Goodman, there is also an audio commentary from director Roy Ward Baker and Sue Lloyd on the episode Luella; There is an interview with Roger Moore talking about his time on the show; A reprint text feature of the original ITC press book for the show, isolated music and effects tracks on selected episodes; A look at various Saint Memorabilia, original ITC story info and extensive production notes, cast and crew profiles and plenty of photo galleries, as well as extensive liner notes.
