ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Paz Vega, Javier Camara, Tristán Ulloa, Najwa Nimri, Daniel Freire, Elena Anaya

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Lucia (Paz Vega) a young waitress living in Madrid seeks seclusion on a lonely Mediterranean island following the death of her author boyfriend, once on the island Lucia becomes lost in memories of their intense relationship.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Beautiful to look at and super erotically charged Sex and Lucia is an amazing film. Director Julio Medem's follow up to the equally sensuous Lovers of the Artic Circle makes heavy use of symbolism, the moon and sun and the sea feature prominently as Lucia reminisces and learns things new about her lover (especially the fact that he had an affair with her best friend).

Sex and Lucia was shot on digital video giving the production a nice immediate quality, Vega is very beautiful and convinces well as the distraught Lucia.

Full of circular ideas Sex and Lucia would certainly benefit from a second viewing (not just for Vega's nude scenes either) with the way the story flits from past to present to not quite sure; Lucia boyfriend Lorenzo is writing a novel and you are never quite sure whether Lucia's thoughts are actual memories or if she is placing herself inside the novel.

Certainly a film that stays long in the memory, a totally absorbing thought provoking must see.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

A behind the scenes doco, cast and crew interviews, photo gallery, audio snippets from the soundtrack, the theatrical trailer and trailers for other Julio Medem product.
