WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

One of the most loved series of all time, The Waltons (which ran from 1972 - 1981) follows the ups and downs of the Walton family living on Walton mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia during the depressed 1930's and 40's.  Times were hard for the Waltons who ran their own barely profitable lumber mill.
The series was seen through the eyes of oldest son John Boy Walton but head of the household was father John and mother Olivia, the couple had seven kids in all; Besides John Boy there was Mary Ellen, Jim-Bob, Elizabeth, Jason, Erin and Ben. Also living with the clan were John's parents Zeb and Esther.

The Walton's were a super close knit family, all pulling together whenever a problem arose (which being episodic television tended to be most of the time).

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Wonderfully warm, beautifully cosy The Waltons is great television from the Golden Age, a proper family show, in every sense of the word. The Waltons transports us back to a more simple time when family life was all.

This five disc double sided set which includes all 24 episodes from the five times emmy award winning first season features some stand out television.

Highlights include the opener The Foundling about a deaf mute child; Jim-Bob and Elizabeth trying to save the family cow in The Calf; the Grandad headlining The Star and the feature length season closer An Easter Story in which Olivia develops Polio and has to learn to walk again.

It's easy to see why The Waltons is so comforting, the world was a worrying place back in the 1970's and its five hundred times more so now, so it's nice to just transport yourself back into the world of the Waltons where a wise word from Olivia or John can solve most things.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

No extras but when the material is this good you don't miss it.
