WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Beginning life as a series of one minute interstitials before graduating to a series of specials and then a series proper, off-beat, other worldly and extremely entertaining The Adventures of Pete and Pete is a skewed view of the modern day world.

Everyone in Pete and Pete is off the wall, the show is seen through the eyes of young Pete, however his older teenage brother is also called Pete, his dad is completely obsessed with his lawn whilst his mother has a metal plate in her head that picks up police radio signals and other oddities, their next door neighbour, Artie, was an inventor who could also be a possible real life Superhero and young Nona (played by Michelle Trachtenberg) is a contemporary of little Pete's.

Nominally taking a basic suburban sitcom setup The Adventures of Pete and Pete is really nothing like anything else, plotlines run from Little Pete and his friends determining to stay awake for 11 days straight to try and break the "Adult Conspiracy" and the family's annual trip to The Hoover Dam.

Highly surreal (the opening theme song is performed by the band Polaris on the Wrigley's front lawn) and guaranteed to appeal to an adult audience, even during its original run it attracted some impressive guest stars (mostly musicians it has to be said - including the likes of Julianna Hatfield and Marshall Crenshaw) The Adventures of Pete and Pete is a show worth checking out if you've never seen it before, if you have seen it before then this set will already be marked down as essential. Roll on season two.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

Four audio commentaries from creators William McRobb and Chris Viscardi and director Katherine Dieckmann as well as two of the sixteen minute long shorts (these are The Burping Room and Mom's Plate); there are also four complete half hour specials (five were made in total, the only one missing is Space, Geeks, and Johnny Unitas), finally there is the Polaris Music Station showcasing some of the songs the band had featured in the show.
