(James Nesbitt) and the other
vehicles on the farm, Rev the
Ute, Buzz the Quad bike and
Wheezy the combine….
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
It
was definitely with some trepidation that we approached these new
adaptations of classic Agatha Christie Miss Marple stories, after all
Joan Hickson and the BBC had pretty much raised the standard with their
gorgeous 1980's stories, we needn't have worried though, these first
four stories are well up to the mark, packed to the gills with top
flight British acting names, beautiful post world war II period
atmosphere and a fantastic Miss Marple in Geraldine McEwan, the four
stories stick pretty closely to Christie's original novels, in no
particular order we have A Murder Is Announced which sees a local
newspaper advertisement proclaiming a murder will take place at a local dignitary's
house, when said murder does take place Miss Marple is quickly on the
scene.
Zoe
Wanamaker headlines as troubled Letitia Blackstock but the cast also
contains the excellent Keeley Hawes and the beautiful Seinna Guillory as
well as Frances Barber and Elaine Paige. MURDER AT THE VICARAGE is
headlined by Derek Jacobi as a crochety old colonel whose death in the
local vicarage spells trouble for the village, again a fantastic cast is
involved including Jason Flemying, Janet McTeer and erstwhile League of
Gentlemen co-hort Mark Gatiss. THE BODY IN THE LIBRARY is a tale of the
murder of a young dancer found dead in the library of Miss Marple's
friend Dolly Bantry. A top flight cast includes Joanna Lumley, Simon
Callow, Jack Davenport, Tara Fitzgerald and Adam Garcia. 4.50 FROM
