by Tyra Banks (who also executive produces and takes a hands on role in
all aspects of the production) America’s Next Top Model only started
in 2003 but is already in its fourth season, a surprise hit from a year
when it seemed we had every kind of reality show imaginable but ANTM hit
all the right buttons, inspiring to a whole nation of teenage girls with
its realistic appraisal of issues such as binge eating, sexuality and
body image it also proved that anyone can become a model, its not what
you look like but what you do with it that counts. It is a contest
though and each show (there are 8 episodes of the contest and one recap
catching up with what has gone before – not really needed on the DVD
but included for sake of completeness) leads up to a photo shoot that
sees one girl being eliminated each week. Deciding who has what it takes
are a great panel of judges (all over the top and adding greatly to the
value of the show) these include Tyra herself, former model Janice
Dickinson, fashion editor of Marie Claire magazine Beau Quillian, the
highly camp catwalk coach Miss Jay Alexander Make up artists Jay
Emmanuel, Art director Nole Marin and trainer John Silverman.
