ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Simon Pegg, Mark Heap, Phil Cornwell

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Fast paced sketch show from the creators Father Ted whose myriad of topics leaves you breathless. Where everyday occurrences are turned on their head and where Britain ’s favourite sport is a staring competition.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

With writers of the caliber of Graham Linehan & Arthur Mathews of Father Ted fame and a cast that includes Simon Pegg and Mark Heap you know you are in for an entertaining ride and this first series of Big Train (originally broadcast in 1998), very fast paced and with sketches covering a huge range of topics Big Train, whilst sometimes obscure for the sake of it, is basically hilarious, one of the biggest hits from this first series was the Championship Stare-Out, a badly animated sketch which consisted of two people staring at each other whilst a breathless Barry Davies (the brilliant BBC sports commentary) and Phil Cornwell give their view of the “match”, at first glance you think surely this is just stupid and it is but it does make you laugh. Other pluses include the show jumpers who want to be firemen, the terminally shy policeman and the Transport Minister who is convinced that a model of a new train he is looking at is built to scale.

If you liked the Fast Show you’ll love this and given its shot on film high gloss look it hasn’t dated a jot. A Big Train well worth catching.
