ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Scott Bakula / Jolene Blalock / John Billingsley / Dominic Keating / Anthony Montgomery / Linda Park

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

This spin off prequel from Star Trek is set in the mid-22nd century (a century and a half before Kirk), and follows Captain Archer and the crew of the 'S.S. Enterprise' - the first ship capable of true interstellar travel who set off into the unchartered galaxy in a time
when humanity has just begun to explore the stars.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

This first season of Enterprise premiered only seven months after the end of Voyager and most people (myself included) were not sure that we needed another Trek series quite so soon, creators Braga and Berman though offered us a nicely interesting spin, a prequel to established Trek lore that followed the crew of the Enterprise some 150 years before Kirk was even a twinkle in his father's eye. Broken Bow - the debut episode - sets the scene nicely, the year is 2151 and the Enterprise is freshly launched on its exploration mission, meanwhile the Federation have a somewhat in the balance relationship with The Vulcans and other problems with a Temporal Cold War involving a time travelling race of aliens called The Suliban.

On board ship Scott "Rhymes with Dracula" Bakula is strong captain Jonathan Archer whilst his number one is the cat suited (lets face no modern Trek is complete without a sexy co-lead in a catsuit) T'Pol (Jolene Blalock), other major characters include engineer "Trip" Tucker (Connor Trineer) and communications officer Hoshi Sato (Linda Park); Chief Surgeon was Dr. Phlox (John Billingsley) who was actually a Denobulan recruit from Earth's Interspecies Medical Exchange.

What's nice about this first series (besides the superb silver plastic casing that the series comes in) is the way that early Trek is explored, so we have use of the Phasers and a new device called "The Transporter" as well as coming across The Vulcans, Klingons, The Ferengi and the Andorans. In conclusion Enterprise turns out to be just as essential as the Trek series that went before and this first season ends on a fantastic clifhanger episode (Shockwave) that sets up nicely for the forthcoming season two. Bring it on!!

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

Well over two hours of extras including a feature on the making of the show; O Captain My Captain gives us a profile of Scott Bakula, we also get cast impressions of season one, a glimpse inside Shuttlepod One, 9 minutes of bloopers, Enterprise Secrets focuses on Admiral Forrest (most guest appearances in Trek) and a look at some of the special effects , Time Travel examines the numerous time travel aspects of Trek lore; There are numerous deleted scenes, a commentary from Brannon Braga and Rick Berman on the opening episode Broken Bow and three interview snippet easter eggs.
