WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
When
Jim Carrey's Joel learns that
his girlfriend Clementine (Kate
Winslet) has had all her
memories of him erased by the
sinister Lacuna Inc company
following their break up - he
decides that he must undergo the
same process, once under their
spell though he realises that he
needs his memories of Clementine
and that he must win back her
heart.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
This
thought provoking and distinctly non linear movie proves once and for
all that script writer Charlie (Human Nature, Being John Malkovich)
Kaufman really does see the world differently to everybody else, hung on
the simple premise of a romantic comedy (albeit one with slight sci-fi
leanings) Eternal Sunshine is like nothing you've seen before,
heartbreaking and hilarious in equal measure with an outstanding central
performance from Jim Carrey, the kind of movie that lingers long in the
memory,
the final half hour is quite simply superb as all the previously
unravelled strands start to come together. The cast is small but besides
Carrey and Winslet also features great playing from Tom Wilkinson as
head of Lacuna Inc and Mark Ruffalo and Elijah Wood as two of his
employees; There's also a clever performance from Kirsten Dunst as
Wilkinson's secretary with a storyline that semi-mirrors that of the
main pairs. Definitely a movie that you have to see and one that you
will end up watching over to catch all the bits you missed first time
round.
