WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

We all shuddered at the head spinning terror of the exorcist, now lets go back into time to look at Father Merrin's first experience with demonic possession.

It is near the end of World War II and Father Merrin sickened by the senseless slaughter, disgusted by the violence that war brings turns his back on the church and his ministry. He is approached by a man who wants him to find a demonic artifact from a church just discovered in a place where there is no record of a church ever being built there, out of curiosity more than anything he agrees to go he is surprised when a young priest from the Vatican accompanies him.

Arriving at the dig site he meets Sarah a young doctor working there and a strong friendship builds. There is a sense of dread and unease in this place the native workers believe that the church being unearthed is cursed and have fled.  Merrin begins to explore it the first thing he finds is paintings of the devil on the walls and all the crucifixes are inverted, this was not a house of God. In further explorations he finds catacombs deep below the earth and further devil icons.

Two young brothers are playing in the site village when the older one is attacked and killed by a pack of hyenas the other one is unscathed not only that but the hyenas ignored him completely, is he who can supposedly control wild animals possessed by the devil, the villagers think so. The youngster has gone into shock and the doctor and Merrin are taking care of him.

Some more killings occur and then the young boy disappears and Merrin has to go deep into the catacombs under the earth to find and destroy the devil a confrontation that not only endangers his life but his very soul.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

The director Renny Harlin has some very good movies in his resume, this film successfully combines the elements of action and horror well and the story moves along at a cracking pace. The Exorcist in a new locale it works well
