ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Matt Damon, Casey Affleck

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Strange, mostly improvised drama about two blokes named Gerry whose road trip leads them to trek across the desert ending up becoming disorientated and lost.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Okay, take a couple of actors, strand them in the desert, let them improvise their dialogue and what do you get? That’s right a pair of actors wandering the desert trying to think of things to say. That’s pretty much Gerry in a nutshell, it does have Gus Van Sant’s beautiful vision in it’s favour of course but right from the opening scene of a car driving along an endless highway (the scene seems to be endless too) it is obvious that Gerry is not your ordinary kind of movie.

A brave experiment that doesn’t really work, it does have its moments though, the lush filming of the landscapes being a major plus and some of the dialogue does come off especially when the two Gerrys descend into bickering as they struggle to find their way home.

At long last on DVD is the musical life story of Gerry Springer, no hang on that’s not right is it?

It is vaguely watchable although I suspect copious quantities of mind expanding drugs could turn it into a real experience (not that I’m advocating that you should try of course) but in the end there is not enough to maintain your interest.
