WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

When their small charter boat The Minnow is caught in a storm whilst on a sight seeing trip the people on board (the skipper, sexy movie star Ginger, millionaire Thirston Howell III and his wife lovey, high school teacher The Professor, country girl Mary Ann and crew member Gilligan) find themselves stranded on an uncharted South Pacific Island, all of this of course took place before the shows opening credits had even finished rolling, thanks to creator Scherwood Schwartz’s clever idea of explaining all this within the shows jaunty theme tune, the episodes themselves concentrate on the groups attempts to survive on the island as well as looking for an escape route.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Season 2 of Gilligan’s Island is really the one that cemented it as a TV classic, now shot in colour, the situations seemed to become a little more farcical and Gilligan became a little more stupid and of course the gang never seemed to get their clothes dirty, the show also had a great cast going for it too, their ensemble playing really lifting the whole thing and with Tina Louise’s Ginger they also had one of the sexiest women on TV in the 60’s.

One of the true classics of its day, the 32 episodes on this set from Warners pretty much prove that series 2 was the show at its funniest and most inventive, the cast and writers all very familiar with their world.

Well worth adding to your collection.

ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?

The set features an introduction to the season by The Professor himself, Russell Johnson, as well as an audio commentary on episode 3’s The Little Dictator by the legendary Sherwood Schwartz himself.
