WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Straight A high school senior, Matthew Kidman (Emile Hirsch) plans to graduate with honours and avoid all teenage trouble. Unfortunately, trouble moves in next door and Matthew can’t resist temptation. But when he discovers that his desirable neighbour and new girlfriend Danielle(Elisha Cuthbert) is actually a porn star and one with a vengeful ex-boyfriend - suddenly his future is at risk...

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Whilst reasonably funny The Girl Next Door is unsure of it's audience, is it an American Pie style comedy or a romantic comedy drama. Unfortunately the subject matter indicates that it's not suitable for the young teenage audience the film's script and playing is seemed to be aimed at.

Matthews two best friends, perpetually horny both, are pure caricature and do little to advance the story and the movie itself does flag somewhat in it's final third

but the best bits about the movie are the insertion of Matthew's dream sequences, played out as they are real, such as his first discovery that Danielle is a porn star and finding her home alone with his parents and Timothy Olyphant as Danielle's obnoxious but still cool pimpish boyfriend, most of the best lines actually fall his way. The 80's soundtrack is pretty funky too!
