WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
This
1967 piece of classic Kitsch
marked Sonny and Cher’s
attempt to translate their campy
humour to the big screen, the
plot sees them playing
themselves as they are offered
the chance at a silver screen
career by a big shot producer…
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Whilst
the plot is wafer thin, Sonny and Cher contemplate a movie offer, cue lots of fantasy
sequences as they imagine various film styles, there is plenty to enjoy
in this nostalgia blast, not least the music of course, including a
great acoustic version of I Got You Babe. The movie is actually directed
by the legendary William Friedkin, he of French Connection and The
Exorcist fame, so stylistically it is spot on even if it is somewhat low
of budget. Good Times on
it’s cinema release pretty much came and went despite some inventive
touches and is certainly worth re-evaluating now, if only for the groovy
fashions and music.
