ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Van Williams, Bruce Lee, Wende Wagner, Lloyd Gough, Walter Brooke

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Another challenge for the Green Hornet, his aide Kato, and their rolling arsenal the Black Beauty! On police records a wanted criminal, the Green Hornet is really Britt Reid, owner-publisher of the Daily Sentinel. His dual identity is known only to his secretary and the district attorney. And now, to protect the rights and lives of decent citizens rides the Green Hornet!

SO IS IT ANY GOOD THEN?

Put together in 1976 by producers keen to cash in on the death of Bruce Lee and the cult that had sprung up around him, Fury of the Dragon is four episodes of classic 60’s show The Green Hornet spliced together to make a single feature - much like they used to do with The Man From Uncle.  The Green Hornet only ran for a single season of 26 episodes (1966-67) but thanks in no small part to the Bruce Lee connection (and the fact that the show is as campy as all get out) and the fact that the show was very similar to Batman (the duo even guested on the show twice) it is still very well remember today.

Plot and style wise the formula is very similar to Batman too,  in the stories here (which were made up of episodes 9,13, 21 and 22) the Hornet (or Green as he liked to be known) and Kato had to stop a gang who wanted to bring a young Prince as well stop a major art robbery and tangle with drug traffickers.

It’s all very enjoyable and not to be taken seriously, there are rumours of a big screen version that will star Jake Gyllenhal as The Hornet but it is hard to see how it can compete with the original in terms of fun. There are plenty of trademark Bruce Lee fight scenes here so fans of his should lap it up and everybody will more than get off on the nostalgia and camp factors. Great stuff.
