ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Richard Crenna

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

In the cinema the subject of aliens from outer space has been dealt with in many ways, endearing (ET), warlike (Earth Vs Flying Saucers and Independence Day) and even spoof (Mars Attacks). However coverage of the subject concerning alien abduction has not been as extensive.
“Intruders” tries and quite successfully looks at the issue from both sides as much is able, while retaining creditability.

The story is fiction but some of the characters are based on people who have claimed to have been abducted by aliens. So……… to the plot in the United States two sisters who live on opposite sides of the country are both emotionally distraught but don’t know why, one is getting flashbacks but doesn’t remember what they are about, while the other is having black outs where she remembers nothing at all what if anything has occurred. Enter an eminent psychologist (sympathetically played by Richard Crenna) who believes that these mental problems are the result of sexual abuse they received as children.

However under regressive hypnotism they are chillingly able to relieve being taken by aliens and undergoing medical tests given by the aliens. One sister recalls being cut in the shoulder in one examination and on inspection finds a deep scar there.

The psychologist is faced with something he has never encountered before.and offers any assistance he can but how can you combat something that is literally and actually out of this world. The film infers that the U S army knows about these alien landings and has adopted their own policy to handle the issue. For the sake of compleateness the film gives a version as to why the aliens are arriving and what role if any does the US Army play.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

This is an above average movie that was originally made for TV the cast( led by the reliable Richard Crenna) is excellent the suspense is nicely built up through the film . Under the direction of Dan Curtis whose experience in over 20 movies covering a wide range of genre the quality of the film shows through.
It is a long film over 2 hours but it never lags and the journey was well worth while.
