SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
When
I was a young teenager growing up in England one of my best friend's
mums was married to an Indian, video recorders were in their first flush
of youth back then and every weekend would turn into a Bollywood
extravaganza, we never knew what the people in the movies were actually
talking about but we always got the gist of the plot, some ill fated
romance with star crossed lovers, plenty of songs and a happy ending.
The films are a heck of a lot glossier now but other than that nothing
has changed.
Kuch
naa Kaho (the first film of director Rohan Sippy) touches all the
familiar
Bollywood
plot points and packs in plenty of songs, Sippy does go for a somewhat
dangerous (by Bollywood standards) angle with Namrata being married with
a 7 year old child (admittedly the husband is an errant one) but it does
serve to provide the storyline with a bit of impetus, especially when
the missing husband returns just as Raj and Namrata have realised their
true feelings for each other. Aishwaria (who is a bit of a honey it has
to be said) as Namrata steals the film, which at almost three hours is
more than a trifle overlong, Raj coming over at times as a bit of a prat.
Despite
some blatent product placement for a certain soft drinks company Kuch
naa Kaho is an enjoyable enough romp.
