Last Goon Show of All - The Memorable TV DVD Review

On the fifth of October 1972 the legendary radio group The Goons (Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan) gathered in front of a TV Audience (which included Royals Prince Philip and Princess Anne) to re-record one of the classic radio shows, cue much corpsing and the silly voices of Sellers and epic characters such as Major Bloodnok, Bluebottle, Eccles and Neddy Seagoon.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Definitely a reunion of an old boys club the Goon trio are having a great old time in this new release from Roadshow, it’s amazing how much the Goons influenced all aspects of modern comedy and while they may be getting forgotten somewhat now by today’s comedy generation their influence still filters down through the likes of Python and even the crazy characters of Little Britain.

Despite the brevity of this release it is still absolutely essential, pretty much the only visual document of the legendary Goon show (yes there were a couple of dodgy 1950’s movies featuring the characters and some reworking of the scripts with the Telegoons but this is the radio version in full flight), a great

extra would have been footage from the Festival of Entertainment Variety Special broadcast 31 December 1972 which featured all three Goons in action again.
