SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
Debuting
16 September 1984 Miami Vice is an iconic legend of 1980's TV, the
suits, the cars, the music, the fashions, its all here in this great 3
disc set from Universal, full on influenced by the MTV generation Miami
Vice is glitzy, glamorous and still very entertaining; Don Johnson
pretty much became Sonny Crockett, starting a major fashion trend with
his pastel sports jacket over a t-shirt, no socks and a stubbly chin
(and no it is not acceptable to be seen in these clothes anymore unless
you're at a Miami Vice convention, in fact in this first series Sonny
Crockett pretty much
has it all, the houseboat (called St Vitus Dance) with
it's own pet alligator, Elvis, the black Ferrari Spider, his partner
Tubbs meanwhile was haunted by the murder of his brother and was
determined to bring justice to bear; A major plus is the fantastic
soundtrack, if this release had appeared five years ago the music would
have still seemed very dated but now enough distance has passed to turn
tracks from the likes of Peter Gabriel, Glenn Frey, Phil Collins, Eric
Clapton, U2, INXS and of course the theme tune by the legendary Jan
Hammer into a real nostalgia blast.
This
release then is highly recommended and not just for the kitsch factor
either, the stories (being Miami the plotlines range from the seedy
underworld to the flashy world of the gold coast) more than stand up in
their own right, with now big name stars such as Bruce Willis, Ving
Rhames and Jimmy Smits (who plays Crockett's first partner who gets
killed in the pilot episode) making an appearance its also high quality
stuff. Go check it out!!
