Klansman),
it's never easy to watch stuff you saw as a kid without feeling a
disappointed however the Professionals is great, proper thick-ear action
adventure from the seventies at its best. Born out of problems created
from season two of The New Avengers (also the brainchild of the
legendary Brian Clemens, convoluted multi national backing meant a third
series of that show would be unlikely) and intended as a rival to The
Sweeney, this first series of The Professionals has it all (and plenty
it shouldn't have) including random acts of violence, Ford Capri's
driving way too fast, misogyny, classic dialogue about birds and in the
episode The Klansman a slice of well dodgy Klu Klux Klan drama that has
still never been seen on Terrestrial TV in the UK after being held back
by parent company London Weekend Television on the grounds of racism.
The Professionals is pretty much the ultimate in Lad TV and like other
Umbrella classic TV releases this set is very attractively put together
package, handsomely full of extras and an erudite and informative 12
page booklet about the genesis of the show.
ANY
SPECIAL FEATURES?
The extras include a pair of audio commentaries from
series creator Brian Clemens on the episodes Private Madness, Public
Danger and The Klansman (he still doesn't seem to know why this episode
fell foul of LWT censors!), there is also a trailer made to market the
series to the USA, cast and crew profiles, original ad break bumpers and
of course the excellent booklet.
