ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Justin Ulrich, Lisa Loeb, Corey Feldman

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

What does a young guy have to do to impress Sasha a girl in his class? This is the dilemma facing Casey Noland in the film “Serial Killer”.

So his solution! Share the same interests with her, the catch she has a morbid fascination for death, serial killers their methods and reasons for what they did. Nevertheless he jumps right into it. Casey tell Sasha that he wants to be a serial killer and a curious relationship develops between them,.Sasha is very keen to give Casey all the encouragement she can and they spend a lot of time watching  documentaries about Charles Manson and Ted Bundy, finally Casey announces he is ready.

The first victim will be a dog that has been keeping Casey awake at nights “The dog will go down!” it does not happen : strike one, then Casey decides to kill an old woman in a nursing home “ she will die tonight !” but it does not happen: strike two, Sasha then indicates that she would be proud to be Casey’s first victim ( obviously has mental baggage of her own) but that endeavour also does not happen :strike three. But there is someone who is not striking out at all, a serial killer is operating in that area young women are being abducted and then killed. So we have an ironic comparison here, someone who wants to kill and can’t and one who wants to kill and does.

This all changes though when Sasha herself is abducted,Casey is now in a race against time to find the killer and defeat them, a failure to do so will cost Sasha her life.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

This is a film that got better the further you get into it, once it stops taking itself seriously . There is some funny dialogue at times ( look for Corey Feldman as an oddball hardware salesman  he almost steals the film in the short scene he’s in).  There is a solid rock music background  in the film but no indication of a soundtrack, the film’s director Trace Slobothin has tried to put together a film that draws off different genres and has been reasonably successful . It’s light on gore and  not offensive.Try the film and enjoy  it for what it is.
