ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

Jean Reno, Gerard Depardieu,

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Ruby and Quentin are a pair of criminals brought together by circumstance, Ruby is a hardened gangster on the run from his mobster boss after his affair with the man's wife is discovered, Quentin is the child-like bruiser who is not very good at robbing banks, after escaping from prison together the pair they have pretty much the whole of France out to get them.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

With two leads pitched somewhere between Abbott and Costello and Laurel and Hardy and comedy moments galore Tais-Toi is bloody hilarious. A very funny movie that proves the French can do comedy too. Tais-Toi (French for shut up) or Quentin and Ruby as the movie is also known starts off straight forward enough like any other plodding French policier/gangster flick as Reno's mobster Ruby crosses swords with his boss by having an affair with his wife (whom he promptly has murdered) and having a hit put on his life and then meeting in prison the not quite there Quentin (Depardieu).

The duo are a little like Asterix and Obelisk with Quentin seeming to possess huge amounts of strength which is often called into action as the second half of the movie settles into a chase format with Ruby and Quentin pursued by both the police (having escaped from Prison) and the Gangsters and along the way learning a few things about life and themselves. Director Francis Veber is something of an old hand when it comes to turning out buddy comedies and he proves it here by producing the funniest French movie in ages - one with great charm and one that is worth taking a look at. Gallictastic!!!
