ANYONE IN IT WE KNOW?

WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Based on a true story Tom Hanks stars as Viktor Navorski who after landing at New York's JFK airport and following a passport glitch finds himself caught in a web of beurocracy that means he can't return to his home country or enter the US. Viktor resolves to stay in the airport Terminal until things are sorted out, however the days turn into weeks to months to years....

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

An airport terminal is not the most likely place to set a film, especially a two hour one at that but Spielberg manages to pull off a bright romantic comedy drama that sees Hanks in his best James Stewart form. The set design is terrific, the airport terminal superbly realised, giant and sweeping shots do well to establish the scope of the place, an airport is pretty much a small city in its own right and the first third of the movie where Viktor learns the rules of the

place, learns to speak English by browsing guidebooks and tangles with head of airport security Frank Dixon (Stanley Tucci) has a real pace about it, events take a turn for the romantic with the arrival of Catherine Zeta Jones' air hostess.

The Terminal is good fun even if it is totally unbelievable, any airport terminal is incredibly boring if you have to spend any length of time in one but to live in one would surely be hell; To get around this Spielberg throws in all manner of subplots, from Viktor helping out a fellow immigration troubled friend to having amazing water fountain skills he uses to impress Jones. Good fun the despite it's slight premise.
