Music have teamed up with
Channel 9 to raid the archives
of their legendary "This Is
Your Life" show which
honours prominent Australians
from all walks of life, not just
celebrities but sporting legends
and people with inspirational
stories to tell.
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
We
really applaud Sony and 9 for having the nous to bring out This Is Your
Life titles, so much better to release material that ordinarily would
not get a TV re-run; This Is Your Life of course is the show that
examines the lives of prominent Aussies, filmed in front of a studio
audience the "target" is surprised with the big red book which
contains their life story (minus all the gruesome scandalous bits
naturally, this is primetime TV after all), presented for years by the
likeable Mike Munro each show (which runs 30 minutes) features family
and friends getting together to tell amusing anecdotes and stories about
the star of the show.
Each
of these three discs (available to buy separately) are themed so we have
a trio of shows featuring prominent married couples, the legend that is
Bert Newton and his long time wife Patti Newton, broadcaster Derryn
Hinch and actress Jacki Weaver and Grant Kenny and Lisa Curry-Kenny. The
Sporting Legends set includes some real legends from golfer Greg Norman,
cricketer Rodney Marsh and racing driver Peter Brock as well as Jeff
Fenech, Wally Lewis and Jeff Fenech. The Inspirational Women set mixes
in celebs (Maggie Tabberer) with prominent sports women (Dawn Fraser,
Evonne Goolagong-Cawley) and women with inspirational stories (outback
bound Sara Henderson, heart transplant recipient Fiona Coote and para
olympian Louise Sauvage).
Generally
an entertaining bunch of shows, from a personal point of view the golden
couples disc stands out as the pick of the bunch, Bert and Patti are
legends and their story is very sweet. Hopefully this trio is just the
first of many, some great shows have been aired over the years, and we
for one are looking forward to it.

Each
of the discs features an introduction from Mike Munro as well as photo
galleries and the chance to view the full length scripts, the sporting
legends set also includes two special compilation editions "The
Sporting Legends" and "The Sporting Heroes".
