WHAT’S IT ABOUT THEN?

Based on the short stories of Andre Dubus We Don’t Live Here Anymore follows the tangled, complicated married lives of two couples as their mutual adultery pushes their lives to breaking point.

SO IS IT ANY GOOD?

Director John Curran always manages to pull off a real intimate quality with his work and as We Don’t Live Here Anymore takes us deep into the heart of marital discord we get something of a glimpse into the human condition.

Mark Ruffalo plays Jack who is married to Laura Derns Terry but is having an affair Edith (Naomi Watts), his best friends wife whose marriage to Hank (Peter Krause) is falling apart. A strong, intelligent movie that doesn’t play games with its audience Anymore is seriously elevated by the subtle playing

of all four leads, in particular Ruffalo proves again that he is one of finest actors knocking around at the moment, his playing of Jack, unable to break away from Edith but unsure of what he should do is a study of a tormented soul.

We Don’t Live Here Anymore, with it’s theme of deception, playing with other peoples lives and the emotional baggage that goes with it, is a fine adult drama that will linger long in the memory.
