WHAT’S
IT ABOUT THEN?
Dr
Albert T. Hopfnagel is the
hospital administrator from
hell, feared by his patients,
hated by his staff. Always
looking for ways to make money
Hopfnagel discovers that his
secretary is plotting to send
him to prison...
SO
IS IT ANY GOOD?
A
great Sellers characterisation, Dr Albert T. Hopfnagel, lifts this
otherwise nothing special black comedy, Hopfnagel is a pretty despicable
character and it's clear that Sellers is having fun with him, coming on
all smooth as silk but hated and distrusted by everyone around him.
Aiming for a slightly permissive air, this is the early 1970's after
all, the movie also has the benefit of starring the gorgeous Jo Ann
Pflug.
At
times Sellers made some strange choices when it came to making movies,
certainly not motivated by box office
potential
he seemed to prefer character roles (Sellers would only apparently
choose roles after first consulting his clairvoyant) and you would have
to put this curates egg into the same bracket, entertaining enough while
its on but doesn't linger long in the memory.
